Our live mussels come from Maivaig Bay on the Isle of Lewis in the outer Hebrides.
Langoustines are know as lots of things; Scampi, Norway lobster, Dublin Bay prawns. We get these from Scotland where they just call them prawns! You will usually see one of these on a Spanish Paella, most of the Scottish catch goes to Spain or Italy. The smallest tails go for breading and are processed into breaded scampi! These come in 3 kgs boxes, about 6.5lbs catering pack. We need at least 48 hours to get these for you, please bear this in mind when selecting your delivery date.
Our fresh lobsters are available for ordering cooked or live; caught off the East coast by day boats we usually need an additional day to prepare them. Occasionally we may have to send frozen in times of bad weather.The price we charge is per 500 grm (1+ pounds). We will charge you for the weight you receive.
Our whole crabs are sold here cooked or live. We try and usually do get smaller male crabs for selling whole as these generally have more meat and no roe but this is not guaranteed. We need 2 days notice to get your crabs and then subject weather.........
We receive fresh oysters daily from either Brittany or from the Essex oyster beds at Maldon on Sea. They are a live animal and must be kept alive until opened, we find the best way is to keep them under wet newspaper in chill. Order a dozen or just one but be careful when opening, use an oyster knife if possible.
We offer two types of fresh clams both available here. The Palourde clam is the more expensive and comes in a 3 kilo basket the Amande for some reason arrives with us in 2.5 kilo nets. These are available from Tuesday to collect from the docks or for delivery Wednesday onwards. Ordering the previous week is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
Our roe on scallop meat is harvested in Scotland. These are from the larger species known as King scallops. If you take scallop meat freshly extracted from the shell and leave it in water it gradually absorbs the water and consequently increases in weight, we buy only 'dry' scallops which although very wet are 'unsoaked'. We received these more or less daily and are usually ex stock. The picture is of our refreshed sashimi roeless scallop, all creamy meat. Select this from the drop down menu.
These East African crevettes are cooked ready to eat. They come in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and have a very good shelf life. Fresh to us on Tuesdays for delivery Wednesday onwards or collection from the shop Tuesday onwards. The biggest size (under 10 per kilo) are too big for the MAP pack, give us a few days notice for these! Freeze what you dont eat...
These raw Crevettes are defrosted in controlled conditions to give good shelf life, the larger sizes (20+) are fresh caught wild.!! We received the larger sizes for Wednesday delivery or collection from the shop onTuesday. Sizes 30-40 and 40-60 are available all week.
Our dressed crabs are supplied by Lockers shellfish in Whitby. Lockers have their own boats and control from catching to delivery to our premises. The crabs are cooked and picked through the night and delivered to us in the morning. Each crab weighs in at 200grms (about 7ozs) and has a good proportion of white meat. All of our crabs come in natural shells - no plastic here!
Our cooked crab claws come from Scotland where they get very large full crabs. The meat goes into our dressed crabs and we keep the biggest claws to be sold separately. Eat your fill then if there is anything left freeze on the day of delivery. Should we not have fresh available we will send frozen.
These little beauties are fished in the North Sea, mainly by the Dutch. They are cooked and peeled and sealed in 100grms (about 3.5ozs) pouches . Of all the prawns we sell, and we sell a lot of prawns, these are the tastiest... Try spreading them on buttered toast - delightful!
